Outside of History Group Show

Bradley Childs’ work seeks to transgress the medium boundaries held by art culture, situating itself between sculpture, design, painting, and installation. Constantly reshaping our perspectives via merging various fabrication methods and tactfully setting singular modes of fashioning. Everything gives the spectator a veiled truth, “My work is focused around looking, the audience looking. Allowing the work to reveal itself gradually. Details usually hidden and made discrete, are allowed to be found.”

Running through the centre of his practice is a strong sensory leaning towards both handcrafted and industrial production, visibly seen glimmering through the materials used within these paintings: rust, crushed brick, and ash, each embodying a degree of mechanical removal which shadows the immediate present. These procedures of building, constructing, and manufacturing are embedded within a deep set of traditions and anti-traditions which have grown through centuries of object development. Childs’ three-dimensional structures create corners from time past. No matter what period or location, objects are formed as servants for human interests, yet what those interests are is defined by the object made.
